1987+ Porsche 911 Rear Torsion Bar Set
Sway-A-Way’s Porsche 911 Rear Torsion Bar set is designed to replace the factory torsion bars in later model air-cooled 911s with larger diameter torsion bars. From 1986-1989, the Porsche 911 came stock with a 25mm rear torsion bar. Sway-A-Way’s high-performance replacement torsion bars are available in both solid & hollow, and come in diameters from 27mm to 29mm in 1mm increments. The Difference between the same diameter solid bar & hollow bar is nothing other than weight savings, there are no rate differences. The actual diameter of a Sway-A-Way hollow torsion bar will be slightly larger than a solid equivalent because a 27mm hollow bar is designed to have the same effective spring rate as a 27mm solid bar.
Various diameter torsion bars allow you to pick the perfect torsion bar for your application. Sway-A-Way’s 1987+ Rear Torsion Bar set will stiffen your vehicle’s rear end, providing better overall handling. Smaller diameter bars are perfect for street and autocross, while our larger diameter bars are generally used on the track.

Aircraft Grade Alloy Steel
Torsion bar strength is directly correlated to material, heat-treat and finish. Sway-A-Way torsion bars are manufactured out of solid chromoly alloy steel that is machined and then heat-treated.
Heat-Treated & Straightened
Heat-treating our torsion bars allow us to raise their HRC to a safe range that is both very strong yet not brittle. Heat-treated bars are straightened after heat-treat to ensure perfect fitment.
Centerless Ground, Exact Rate
A bulk of the machining is done to Sway-A-Way torsion bars before heat-treat but one machining process is reserved for after. Centerless grinding is a process we use in-house to finish machining our torsion bars to their exact diameter call-out. The result is a smooth bar that is the exact specified spring rate with zero stress risers.
Powder Coated for Corrsion Resistance
For lasting performance, Sway-A-Way uses a thick powder coat over the center section of the bar. Powder-coating eliminates the risk of the bar rusting and eventually failing.
Pair our 1987+ Porsche 911 rear torsion bars with Sway-A-Way’s Adjustable Porsche Spring Plates. These replacement spring plates are manufactured out of high-quality 3/16″ spring steel and 4130 steel collars and offer about 1-1/2” in. of up or down adjustment.
Sway-A-Way designs and manufacturers all Porsche products in its Chatsworth, CA facility. Sway-A-Way’s torsion bars are warrantied from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of (1) one year from the date of sale to the original purchaser.
